Planning your food shops

WATCH ON

It pays to plan your food shopping, to save you money and waste. Young care leaver Graeme shares his top tips for sticking to a tight budget.

1. Know what you’ve got

Go through your cupboards and fridge to check what you’ve already got and to avoid buying things you don’t actually need. That helps stop things going to waste!

2. Plan your meals

Being organised and planning what meals you’d like to make each week also helps to reduce waste and save money, because it means you can make multiple recipes using the same ingredients.

3. Make a shopping list

Taking a list to the shops helps to keep you focussed on what you really need. And helps you avoid those tempting offers in the supermarket, especially if you go shopping when you’re hungry!
